頭發灰白的朝圣者，你已旅行很遠，

我請你對我講講，

是否在任何海岸

有個沒有“愛情”的地方？

因為我厭倦了上帝，

我會離他而去，

盡管我必須乘上一只船，

駛到大洋那面的地域。

“我知道有個港口沒有‘愛情’，

那只船就在你手上，

那么將劍刺入你胸口，

你便會到達那個地方。”[1]

Youth and the Pilgrim

Gray pilgrim,you have journeyed far,

I pray you tell to me

Is there a land where Love is not,

By shore of any sea?

For I am weary of the god,

And I would flee from him

Tho' I must take a ship and go

Beyond the ocean's rim.

"I know a port where Love is not,

The ship is in your hand,

Then plunge your sword within your breast

And you will reach the land."

[1]沒有了愛情，生活會變得黯然悲傷，因此“我”要找個沒有愛情的地方云逃避。而朝圣者讓“我”去那里的方式讓人意外，即死亡——人都死了，哪里還有愛情呢？這說明痛苦的愛情給詩人的打擊多么巨大！
