D: Man，you're so mean! Plus，she's not fat，just big boned.

A: No，she's just fat.

All right，聽完今天的對話之后，我們要學(xué)習(xí)big boned和fat的區(qū)別。So, Darby, what's the difference between“big boned”and“fat”?

Well，actually in the west people are very very sensitive about their bodies. We don't like to talk about appearance，and we especially don't like to tell people they're fat.

So as a very tactful way of saying somebody is overweight，we say：“Uh，no，you are not fat. You are just big boned.” It just sounds a lot nicer.

OK，在這邊給大家提個醒，在跟外國人做朋友的時候，千萬不要去討論對方的體形問題。因?yàn)槲覀冎袊颂貏e喜歡說，“哎，你是不是變胖了？”“哎，你變瘦了！”這些話都不要和外國朋友說！那該怎么說呢？要說“You look great!”“You look great today!”

剛才大白跟大家說的是，如果這個女孩/男孩真的有一點(diǎn)兒胖，他們也不會說對方“fat”，他們會說“big boned”。

OK，time for today's bonus. As Alex said westerners are very sensitive about their weight. So we would not tell somebody they are fat. We might say：“Oh，you are not fat. You are just big boned.”

There's another word that you can use. That word is “curvy”. But you can not use this word to describe a guy. You can use this word to describe a girl.

If a guy is fat，maybe we would just say：“Oh，you look very strong!”

All right，老外對體重真的是非常非常敏感。所以有另外兩個詞：一個叫“curvy”，用于形容那種比較有曲線的女孩；形容男孩比較胖的，可以說“You are strong.”，你看起來非常強(qiáng)壯，非常“奘”。
