親愛的讀者：

這是我的歷書第三次出版了，到目前為止，我自己非常滿意，也希望大家滿意。大家都是心胸寬廣的人，對我十分友好，我應當把握每一個時機來表達我的感激之情，否則的話，我就成了忘恩負義的人。所以，請允許我向讀者表示衷心的感謝。

天籟如此美妙，燦爛的星空也如此和諧，可占星師之間卻無法和諧相處，他們無休止地相互指責，就像狗兒一樣，一見面就互相撕咬，也好比粗漢對自己的老婆那樣大動肝火。我決定不和他們任何人爭吵，盡量與他們和平相處。我希望永遠這樣，但已經去世的泰坦·利茲對我大加辱罵，我指的是，假冒泰坦·利茲的人還活著，對我進行百般攻擊，對我這個人和我的預測不屑一顧，還不斷編寫和出版歷書攻擊我。

我不禁要說：盡管我對此忍耐很久，但我對此氣憤得很，這種做法對我不友善。無論假冒泰坦·利茲的人如何偽裝，我確定他已經去世了，理由有三：首先，聰明人的預言往往是不準確的。你可以看看，我預言的他的死亡日期。其次，他必須按規(guī)定的時間去世，只有這樣，才算是尊重那些占星術士、利茲本人，還有他父親。最后，讀過1734年與1735年歷書的人很清楚，那不是尚在人世的他的著作。

那些文章平淡低俗，讀起來晦澀無味，沒有一點給人啟迪之處，也沒有多少警世名言。除了最近一年的歷書中排在每個月之前的有關占星術的諷刺詩還算有點意思外，其余的都很無聊，而這種諷刺詩，只有已經不在人世的占星術士能寫出來，常人無法完成，我可以用他的話來證明，他的確已經不在人世。他在為自己1734年的歷書所寫的序言中說：“薩德斯又在他的歷書中犯了一個極大的錯誤，他估計我只能活到1733年10月26日，這一預測并不準確。”如果按利茲說的，他活到1733年10月26日才去世的這一預測不準確，那么他肯定在此之前就已經去世了。假如他在此之前已經過世，那么，無論他有什么樣的目的和打算，也無論說了什么自相矛盾的話，他現在都已經不在人世。難道我預測的10月17日，不是他最有可能的離世時間嗎？不過，聽說有些人死后會四處游蕩、惹事生非，那也許是因為這種人天生就有點不正常，如果不徹底改造，這樣的脾氣個性很難改掉，但也不該因此而自以為是，沒有規(guī)矩。我深知一個占星術士是無法忍受約束的。我很寬容，說話不會不留分寸。好了，假如那些假冒利茲的人不盡快學會怎樣尊重活著的朋友的話，即使我極不情愿，也不得不釆取行動了。
