林間繞，泥濘道，

深山雨后斜陽照。

溪流滿，竹橋短，

嶺橫霧隔，

歲寒春晚，

返？返？返？

青青草，櫻桃小，

漸行漸覺風光好。

云煙散，峰回轉，

菜花十里，

一川平坦，

趕！趕！趕！

—A mountain trip in western Hunan, 1951

The land woody, the road muddy,

The sun slanted on the rain-showered mountain moisty.

Full was the creek, short the bamboo plank,

Ridges blocked my way, fog my view blurred,

The weather was cold, spring slack—

Back, back, back?

Grass greeny, cherries tiny,

As I walked slowly, the landscape unrolled slowly.

Mist sank, the peak changed its track,

Ten-mile rape fl owers straight,

A smooth stretch without break—

Quick, quick, quick!

This poem takes a mountain trip as the theme. Between the depiction of the landscape is the author's ambition at heart.
