A clearing bank is a bank which,in the UK,is a member of the bankers’ clearing house,to enable passage and clearance of cheques. It is often used as an alternative description for the major High-Street or jointstock banks.
Clearing house:a centralized and computerized system for settling indebtedness between members. The best-known in the UK is the Association for Payment Clearing Services(APACS),which enables the member banks to off-set claims against one another for cheques and orders paid into banks other than those upon which they were drawn.Similar arrangements exist in some commodity exchanges,in which sales and purchases are registered with the clearing house for settlement at the end of the accounting period.〔譯文:票據交易所:成員之間為了結清債務而建立的具有集中性質和電算化的系統。 〕
