申請護(hù)照和簽證 Applying for a Passport and a Visa

護(hù)照是在全世界各個國家都有效力的證件，簽證相當(dāng)于一個國家發(fā)給外來者的通行證。計(jì)劃出國去旅游，提前申請護(hù)照和簽證是第一步。不過不用太擔(dān)心，這個步驟其實(shí)并不是那么復(fù)雜。

Visa Officer: What’s your purpose for going abroad?

Tom:

For a tour. And how long will it take to get a tourist visa?

Visa Officer:

You have to wait for three weeks. Do you have relatives in America?

Tom: Yes. My aunt lives in San Francisco.

Visa Officer: What does your aunt do for a living?

Tom: She works for Starbucks.

Visa Officer:

OK. We’ll let you know once your visa is granted.

Tom: Thank you.

簽證官：請問您出國的目的是什么?

　湯姆：去觀光。請問辦理旅游簽證需要多長時間?

簽證官：需要3個星期。您在美國有沒有親戚?

·grant sb. sth. = grant sth. to sb. 同意給某人某物

★ for a living 意為“為了生存”；mak a living 意為“謀生”。

例：Making a living as a door-to-door salesman demands a thick skin. 干挨家挨戶上門推銷這一營生得臉皮厚。

★ be about to 表示“剛要或即將做某事”。需要注意的兩點(diǎn)：第一，表示即將發(fā)生的動作，在時間上指最近的將來；第二，在含有be about to 的句子中，不能再加時間狀語。
