Tune: Buddha-like Dancers—Farewell to Changsha, 1951
Flat dyke and sandy bank lie along the Xiangjiang River,
Trees bloom in red and purple on Xiang mountains all over.
Tender is Xiang water's nature,
Billowing all the way along my departure.
Immense is my reluctance to go,
Rising with clouds in glow.
Spring lands on every mile,
But for no man it tarries a while.
Note:
Upon receiving the Letter of Admission to the Department of Economics of Peking University in the latter part of August, 1951, the author left Changsha for Beijing by train right away.
