Summary
In this chapter, you learned to recognize some of the hardware prerequisites for a MongoDB 4.x installation. Among the considerations discussed were how much memory was required, the type and nature of storage, and the file and operating systems. You then learned some of the differences between a MongoDB 3 and a MongoDB 4.x installation. The most important consideration is that support for some of the older operating systems (for example, Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 8.1) has been—or will shortly be—removed.
You were given a general overview of how to install MongoDB on Linux, Windows, and macOS. You then learned about the more important configuration options and the location and nature of the configuration file. After that, you learned how to install the recommended Python driver, PyMongo. You learned that although there are many ways in which this driver can be installed, the preferred method is to use the pip3 Python package manager. The last section showed you how to download the source code and sample data for the book. You also learned how to set up a demo environment using Docker technology, to be used as a reference throughout the remainder of the book.
In the next chapter, you learn how to use the mongo shell to access the MongoDB database.
