Cancer registration is a systematic and regular statistical system designed for collecting information on cancer patients.Cancer registration aims at understanding cancer incidence,mortality and survival in urban and rural areas,which helps to understand the current status and trends of cancer burden in different regions and populations.Cancer registration may provide accurate,up-to-date population-based cancer data which are vital for decision making on cancer prevention and control.The data may also provide basic information for cancer research and cancer surveillance.
1 Establishing a cancer registry
According to the Chinese Cancer Registration Management Regulation published by the former National Health and Family Planning Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Medicine of China,all medical institutions in different levels of China should conduct cancer registration.In February,2019,National Health Commission of China requires cancer registration to be fully covered in all counties of China,and China will build a nation-wide cancer registration reporting system.
A cancer registry is the bureau to collect,store,manage,and analyze cancer data.A cancer registry should be established based on the death surveillance system and accurate population statistics.The local governments or health bureaus should make regulations on cancer registration.They should also provide trained personnel,funding,equipment and cancer report regulations to support the establishment of cancer registries.
