Golden Sand River and Jade Dragon Mountain

In southwest China，there flows a river called the Golden Sand River and sleeps a mountain named the Jade Dragon Mountain．Legend says that the fiver was a beautiful young girl and the mountain a silverhaired old man．They were neighbors living under Qinghai’s Bayan Kala Mountain．

One day，the old man told a story about a prince who lived under the East Sea and was searching for a companion．After learning that a beautiful girl lived in the west，the prince hoped that she would one day journey to his home．Therefore，he waited on the beach everyday．Sadly，the girl never came，so he finally fell ill．The only cure was the girl’s presence．When the story finished，the old man teased the young girl that she was the girl in his tale．Surprisingly，the girl decided to head for the East Sea，accompanied by the old man，in search of her prince．

Forty days later，they reached Lijiang County in Yunnan．Because the old man was ahead，he decided to wait and rest on the street of Baisha．Soon，he fell asleep．The young girl，having failed to wake him，had to walk around the old man for three days．Eventually，she reached the East Sea and found her prince．Thousands of years have passed since，yet one can still hear the calling of the young girl of Golden Sand River for the old man of Jade Dragon Mountain to wake up．
