10. 屬格代名詞的絕對型，反身屬格的用法
“她有點私房錢”一句話，為什么不可以譯成“She has some her own property.”，而必須要譯作“She has some property of her own.”才對？
【解答】英文的屬格代名詞原有兩種形態，一是說出名詞的，一是不說出名詞的，前者為普通型，后者稱絕對型（Absolute Form）。如“Your house is larger than mine（= my house）.”，用了絕對型的mine，就可避免重復說house一個名詞了。當那名詞前面用有a、any、some、no、this、that等字樣時，這個絕對型常要用在of之后，而構成英文的雙重屬格（Double Possessive），例如：
A friend of mine is desirous of seeing your house.（我的一個朋友想要看看你的屋子。）
That is no business of yours.（那不關你的事。）
That was a shocking mistake of yours.（那是你的一個大錯。）
Where did you buy that watch of yours？（你那只表是哪里買的？）
May I look at this photograph-album of yours？（你的這本照相簿我可以看看嗎？）
如果不用代名詞而改用名詞的時候，就要在名詞上附加撇號（Apos-trophe）“s”，才能同樣地表示出屬格來，例如：
Any friend of my brother’s is welcome.（任何一位我兄弟的朋友我都歡迎他來。）
It was no fault of the doctor’s. ——Irving（那不是醫生的過錯。）
Which house of your neighbour’s was burnt down？（你附近的哪一幢房子燒掉了？）
That really beautiful speech of your husband’s.（你丈夫說的話真夠漂亮。）
反身屬格（Reflexive Possessive）的my own、your own、his own等，也是采用這種形式，當那名詞前面附有a、any、some、no、this、that一類的字眼時，尤其是與動詞have同用的時候，例如：
He has no house of his own.（他沒有自己的房子。）
She has no children of her own.（她沒有親生的兒女。）
Has she any money of her own？（她自己有錢嗎？）
That boy has a will of his own.（那孩子有自己的意志。）
I have some reasons of my own for wishing to do so.（我想要這樣做是有我自己的理由的。）
Among the languages which we describe as foreign，French holds a position of its own.（在我們形容為外國文的各種語文當中，法文有它獨特的地位。）
在雙重屬格時，我們一定要說a friend of my brother’s，因為我們不能說my brother’s a friend或a my brother’s friend。在反身屬格時，我們不能說“He has a（或no）his own house.”，一定要說“He has a（或no）house of his own.”；也不能說“She has not any her own property.”，而一定要說“She has not any property of her own.”；也不能說“I have some my own reasons.”，而一定要說“I have some reasons of my own.”。這都是為著要避免指示代名詞與屬格代名詞連在一起的關系。
如果名詞前沒有a、any、no、this等字，而又不用have（= be the owner of）動詞的話，則my own是可以置于名詞前面的，如云：
This is not my own house.（這不是我自己的房子。）
又，如果have不作be the owner of解時，也還是可以不采用“of + 反身代名詞”的形式，如：
Each country has（= keeps）its own customs.（各國各有其不同的風俗。）風俗不是一種物質，不能有“所有權”的。
