[TT]Japan to Meet China for Mixed Team Table Tennis Gold

（NANJING,23 Aug.）It was a highly anticipated clash when Japan played Hong Kong, China on Saturday morning in the table tennis mixed international team semifinal at Wutaishan Sports Center Gymnasium.

The number two seeds against the world No.3 pairing was a match that saw both excitement and drama, while the second semi-final between China and Thailand went according to plan with a straightforward 2-0 win to FAN Zhendong（CHN）and LIU Gaoyang（CHN）.

The China result was a pretty safe bet, whereas the competition in the Japan vs Hong Kong, China contest was wide open.DOO Hoi Kem（HKG）, the girls'world No.1 player, showed fantastic form against Japan's KATO Miyu, beating her 3-0 in an easy match.KATO's team partner, MURAMATSU Yuto, on the other hand, showed no sign of weakness on the table, smashing HUNG Ka Tak（HKG）3-0.It was the deciding mixed doubles match that finally secured Japan a place in the final as it defeated Hong Kong, China 11-7,6-11,11-7,10-12,11-4.

The final will be the fourth time in their careers FAN and MURAMATSU have met.So far, FAN has won all three previous encounters, among them the thrilling 4-2 gold medal match in the men's singles at Nanjing 2014 last Wednesday.

The mixed international team bronze medal game between Thailand and Hong Kong, China will take place later on Saturday at 17:00, and the much anticipated gold medal will follow at 18:30.

[TT]Sport Preview:Table Tennis Junior World Leaders to Compete in Nanjing

（NANJING,15 Aug.）Table tennis is the second-highest participated sport in the world with an estimated 300 million participants—64 of those will compete in the table tennis competitions of the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing starting on Sunday.

In the three events—the men's single, women's single and mixed teams—the athletes from 44 different NOCs will try to follow the footsteps of NIWA Koki（JPN）, GU Yuting（CHN）and TANIOKA Auyka（JPN）who won the gold medals at the first edi tion of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore four years ago.

This time around, all eyes will be on Chinese star FAN Zhendong.The 17-yearold is currently ranked No.1 one in the under 18 world ranking and No.3 in the world ranking of the seniors.He is a 2014 world team champion and eager to add Youth Olympic Champion to his already long list of achievements.

Two to challenge him for the gold medal are MURAMATSU Yuto（JPN）and Hugo CALDERANO（BRA）who are ranked third and fifth in the under 18 world ranking of the International Table Tennis Federation（ITTF）.

The ITTF initiated a 12-month long qualification system called“Road to Nanjing”in order to grant everyone a chance for qualify for the Youth Olympics, now the best out of those qualification events will meet each other at the Wutaishan Sports Gymnasium.

At the women's competitions DOO Hoi Kem（HKG）is the one to watch.The current leader of the ITTF under 18 world ranking names FAN Zhendong as her favorite player, so it comes as no surprise that she is as well aiming to go for gold.

Two other of the current top five junior athletes in the world will challenge DOO for the Youth Olympic title:LIU Gaoyang（CHN）and KATO Miyu（JPN）are among her strongest medal contenders.But the women's single competition will not be an all-Asian affair with 2012 US-national champion Lily ZHANG（USA）and 2014 European girls' champion Chantal MANTZ（GER）trying to break through the Asian dominance at the table tennis events.

For the mixed competitions, the strong Chinese and Japanese pairs seem to be out of reach for other NOCs.FAN will play together with fellow Chinese LIU, at the Japanese side MURAMATSU and KATO will do their best to thwart the host nation's quest for gold.

The competitions at Wutaishan Sports Gymnasium will commence with the first round of the men's and women's singles on Sunday, August 17.The first round of the mixed events will start on August 21.
