一、GRE寫作需要什么樣的語言?

官方指南對每個分數段都給出了清晰的要求,我們一起來看一下語言方面的標準。

Analyze an Issue部分

In addressing the specific task directions,a 6 response presents a cogent,well-articulated analysis of the issue and conveys meaning skillfully.

·demonstrates facility with the conventions of standard written English(i. e.,grammar,usage and mechanics),but may have minor errors

通過對比,大家應該能夠看到Issue部分和Argument部分對于語言的要求是一致的,這也是為什么我們把兩部分語言放在一起討論的原因。

高老師的語言水平毫無疑問是skillful的,但我在考場上是做不到skillful的,這也是為什么我幾乎每次考試都考5分的原因,我在短短30分鐘之內只能保證語言的clarity。如果把5分當作一個很高的分數來看的話,我們至少能意識到,考生們在考場上沒有任何理由追求浮夸的語言,只需要做到clarity。

接下來,我們重點談談希望大家能夠短時間內達到的水平——4分,同時對比我們想要短時間內擺脫的分數——3分。區別是很明顯的。4分的學生能夠做到acceptable clarity,即雖然語言不是絕對清楚,但是讀者還是能夠明白考生想要說什么的;相反,3分的語言是obviously flawed,具體來看,這些文章會造成lack of clarity,會interfere with meaning。簡而言之,就是會有些時候讓人看不懂。

很多同學是否已經意識到自己先前努力的方向出現偏差了。短期內突破GRE語言,我們只需要追求寫的內容讓人看懂,而不需要寫得很“高級”,雖然我也并不認同大部分同學對“高級”語言的判斷。
