Nowadays, the number of Chinese students going abroad in pursuit of higher education has been increasing steadily.¹ Studying abroad is fun, exciting and life-changing, but it is also filled with challenges.²

Firstly³, studying abroad can be costly, especially in terms of college tuition and the cost of living. When one lives on a stringent budget, his or her quality of life will slip away. Secondly³, adapting to a different culture can be very difficult. Many overseas students meet with language weakness and poor adaptability to foreign environments, which are barriers when they participate in various college activities. Lastly³, studying abroad isn’t the ticket to a good job. Many college students optimistically think that having an overseas diploma can help them find a decent job. However, remarkable capacity for work is what employers value more.

Therefore, think twice before deciding to go abroad.⁴ Going abroad is not the only way to expand future career opportunities.⁵

如今，出國留學(xué)深造的中國學(xué)生的數(shù)量一直在穩(wěn)步增長(zhǎng)。留學(xué)是有趣的、令人興奮的、可以改變?nèi)松模且渤錆M挑戰(zhàn)。

首先，留學(xué)會(huì)很昂貴，尤其是大學(xué)學(xué)費(fèi)和生活開銷方面。如果一個(gè)人的生活捉襟見肘，他/她的生活品質(zhì)將不復(fù)存在。其次，適應(yīng)不同的文化會(huì)非常困難。許多留學(xué)生都會(huì)遭遇語言劣勢(shì)以及難以適應(yīng)國外環(huán)境的情況，這些都是留學(xué)生參加各種各樣的大學(xué)活動(dòng)時(shí)的障礙。最后，留學(xué)并不是通往好工作的直通票。許多大學(xué)生樂觀地認(rèn)為，擁有國外文憑就可以幫助他們找到一份體面的工作。然而，出眾的工作能力才是雇主更加看重的。

因此，在決定留學(xué)之前一定要三思。留學(xué)并非拓寬未來職業(yè)機(jī)會(huì)的唯一途徑。

【句法點(diǎn)評(píng)】

1．Many overseas students meet with language weakness and poor adaptability to foreign environments, which are barriers when they participate in various college activities.

本句為復(fù)合句，which引導(dǎo)定語從句，修飾先行詞language weakness and poor adaptability，when引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語從句。poor adaptability意為“糟糕的適應(yīng)性”，引申翻譯為“難以適應(yīng)……”。

2．Lastly, studying abroad isn’t the ticket to a good job.

本句使用了the ticket to...這一固定表達(dá)，原本意為“通往……的車票”，該表達(dá)中介詞to后面一般要接表示具體目的地的名詞，而本句中to的賓語是a good job，是一個(gè)抽象概念，用在此處是一種形象化的說法。和寫漢語作文一樣，寫英語作文時(shí)恰當(dāng)使用比喻、擬人等修辭手法，可以使語言變得更加形象生動(dòng)，讓人眼前一亮。

句中使用了諺語think twice，短小精悍，言簡(jiǎn)意賅，作為結(jié)尾段落的總結(jié)，給結(jié)尾段落增色不少。
