1　Introduction

In 2021, the CPC Central Committee proposed to accelerate the construction of digital China and promote the development of the digital economy in the Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the 2035 Vision Goals. With the clarity of this strategic direction, the InsurTech industry has emerged.

As we all know, insurance is an effective management method for human society to deal with various risks. With the rapid development of science and technology, the integration of insurance industry and modern scientific and technological forces are getting closer and closer, which is profoundly changing the traditional insurance industry, bringing opportunities as well as challenges to insurance practitioners and scientific and technological practitioners. This chapter starts from the origin of InsurTech, focuses on the current situation and future of InsurTech and the development of InsurTech companies, and presents readers with relevant cases at home and abroad (including a case for course ideological and political), so as to let readers quickly understand the general situation of InsurTech and lay the foundation for the study of the following chapters.
