Abstract

In the history of Chinese children's literature，Ren Rongrong is the only writer and translator that has been devoted to both fields of writing and translating with huge achievements.Since the start of his career in the late 1940's，Ren Rongrong has produced huge loads of works and translated works of children's literature，which used to have and is having readers of different generations.In the reading history of many Chinese，Ren Rongrong's works resonated with their childhood memories.Ren Rongrong's early years of translated works were mainly focused on Russian classics of children's literature.

Since the late 1980's，Ren Rongrong has been committed to the translation of English-speaking countries’ children's literature，which is the major research objective of this dissertation.With Bourdieu's field，capital and habitus in his theory of social practice theoretical tools，this dissertation aims to explore the canonization mechanism of Ren Rongrong's translated works and the possible contributors in the process of canonization under sociological perspectives in combination with the analysis and comparison of translation through gestalt theory and intertexulaity theories.

Translated children's literature is one of the most important driving forces that promote the beginning and development of Chinese children's literature in the modern sense.Ren Rongrong's contribution to the history of Chinese children's literature translation forms a stark contrast to the meagerness of“Ren Rongrong Studies”.The canonization study of Ren Rongrong's translated works is a proposition with multiple meanings.

First，literariness is the nature of all literature and translated literature in the process of canonization construction.Aesthetic values and intexuality facotors both contribute to canonization of translated literature.Canonization study of Ren Rongrong's translated children's literature can't be isolated from the analysis and interpretation of aesthetic values in his works.In the mean time，Ren Rongrong's life-long career is characterized with writing in translating and translating in writing.The overlapping of his dual identities of writer and translator endows his works with the features of obvious intertexuality；Second，non-literary factors are the magnificent constructing force in the process of translated works canonization.Capitals held by a translator in particular fields greatly influence the publishing，dissemination and reception of his translated works.Ren Rongrong's early years’ living environments，educational backgrounds as well as his working histories not only shaped his habitus in translating children's literature，but also helped accumulate his capitals in the field of children's literature；Third，in the times of the Internet and information technology，the way of book publishing，consuming and reading has witnessed dramatic changes.On the one hand，the classics are overly promoted and consumed；on the other hand，the classics are being badmouthed and the sound of decanonization lingers on. Against the disneyization backdrop of writing，publishing and consuming of children's literature，the canonized status of Ren Rongrong's translated works remains unknown in the years to come；Fourth，English is undoubtedly the dominating language of the world.Right after Ren Rongrong's Russian translation period，he has begun to take in view the children's literature treasures across the globe，mainly committing himself to translating children's literature of English-speaking countries.The start of Ren Rongrong's children's literature translation from English accompanied the coming of China's third translation climax of children's literature from the West.Ren Rongrong's translation in this period gathered his translation wisdom of his early years’ translation of children's literature in Russian，on the basis of which his translated works are subtly intertexualized with his original works in aspect of style and the expressing of children's game spirit.

Through the study of canonization mechanism of Ren Rongrong's translated children's literature from English，the future tendency of Chinese children's literature translation can be more reasonably judged，which helps us look at the production and development of Chinese children's literature more objectively so that the voice of Chinese children's literature can be widely heard throughout the world against the backdrop of Chinese culture going global.
