Time for action - copying and pasting the key frame
We will now copy this key frame and paste it to frame 1 on the grill timeline so the grill will be in the proper position when the scene starts:
- With grill selected click on the key frame we just created when we moved and scaled the grill.
- Click on the Copy button on the timeline.
- Click on the key frame at frame 1 (it will turn blue when selected) and click on the Paste button on the timeline to paste the copied key frame over the first key frame.
- Click on the key frame we created when we moved and scaled the grill (in this case frame 700) and press the Delete key to delete that key frame, as it is no longer needed after we pasted a copy of it to frame 1.
What just happened?
Had we gone back to frame 1 to move and scale the grill, the character would have been out of place as it was facing the other direction at that time. As we do not want the grill to move and scale down while the animation is playing, we must paste a copy of the frame we just created to frame 1 on the grill's timeline.
In this project our rendered animation will not start at frame one, but will start at frame 320 when the male character sets the beer down and turns toward the grill. Props and characters may be out of place on any frame before this starting point, but it doesn't matter as we are only going to render from frame 320 forward.
Now we are ready to close the grill with its built in animation and animate the character's hand to mimic the closing.
