Time for action - grabbing a beer
The iProps operate on a built-in XML file that can be modified or used as is and can be imported into similar props. It is beyond the scope of this beginner's guide to modify the underlying code so we will instead adjust the iProp and character as necessary:
- Select the Deckhouse A prop. Right-click on the prop and select Add to Terrain.
- Click on the male character.
- Click on or select the beer can iProp.
- Right-click on the beer can iProp and select Take from the menu.
- Move the time scrubber back to the beginning and select the female character.
- With the female character selected, click on Pick Target under the Look At section in the right menu. Make sure Head is selected. Click on the Look At button, if necessary, and set the Look At Subnode to Head.
What just happened?
We used the built-in scripting of iClone to sit the prop down on the rail. Don't be surprised if the can doesn't exactly go where you want it to. We can do some adjusting with the Move tool when necessary. iProps are still in their infancy and can have a few hiccups here and there.
We used the Look At command to direct our female character to watch continually at the male, which will add some movement to her character as well as improve the scene.
Altering the characters' clothing
This is another area that allows us to modify the characters' looks or in this case their clothing. As stated earlier, diffuse maps with bump maps and opacity maps can make new clothing or give existing clothing a new look.
If you will remember in Chapter 2, Creating Your First Scene, when using opacity maps anything that covers black will not show, such as their outer clothing. Anything covered in white will be visible so you can make a long sleeve shirt into a short sleeve shirt.
Let's alter the shirt that Jana is wearing.
