A distribution point provides source files to clients for tasks that have been created by an administrator. These files are needed for operating system installation, releasing patches, and software deployment. To make use of this functionality, at least one distribution point server, assigned to proper boundary groups, needs to be installed in the environment:

This role is configured depending on the functions distribution points needs to provide. Additional configuration is also needed if the role is to support Windows Deployment Services. The server might be installed and configured during ConfigMgr deployment or later, being added to an existing deployment.
