Operations domain
The operations domain includes the functions responsible for operating the systems in the control domain, with a focus on system-wide optimization, rather than local operations, taking a more holistic approach than traditional plant- or component-level operations. By focusing on operational efficiency across the business, new opportunities emerge for added value in the business domains. Figure 2.6 illustrates the operations domain supporting multiple customers:

Let's understand the operation of each function illustrated in the preceding diagram:
- Provisioning & Deployment: These functions performs configuring, on-boarding, registering, retiring, and tracking of assets. They also communicate with assets at the individual asset level and across fleets of assets, and must be able to function regardless of the environment.
- Management: These functions enable asset management centers to propagate commands across control systems and to the assets, and likewise allow the assets and control centers to respond.
- Monitoring & Diagnostic: These functions assist operations personnel to respond to problems rapidly. By performing real-time monitoring of the asset health, problems can be detected early or even predicted before they occur.
- Prognostics: This analyzes historical data against current conditions and predicts outcomes, usually by identifying problems before they occur.
- Optimization: These functions are concerned with improving asset reliability and performance and ensuring they operate at peak efficiency.
