Changing Object Interaction Mode and editing the Bezier curve

Just as there are different ways of viewing your object, there are different ways of interacting with it. This is called Object Interaction Mode and there is a drop-down at the bottom of your 3D View Window to allow you to switch back and forth between two options:

  • Object Mode: In Object Mode, you are interacting with the entire object. You can perform actions such as scaling, rotating, moving, or deleting.
  • Edit Mode: In Edit Mode, you are able to get down into the nitty gritty details and edit very specific points to change the underlying structure and appearance of your object.

In the case of our Bezier curve, in Object Mode, we can make our curve bigger or smaller, but that doesn't help match the shape of our face. To accomplish that we'll need to switch to Edit Mode:

  1. At the bottom of your 3D View Window, change the Object Mode drop-down to Edit Mode. Alternatively, you can hit the Tab button to switch back and forth:

With Bezier curves, each section of curve is defined by a combination of points:

  • Control points: Control points can be thought of as the starting point and ending point of the curve, where you are coming from and where you are going to.
  • Handles: In addition, each curve segment is defined by two handle points. Handles will not necessarily lie on the final curve, but will influence the direction and severity of it:

For each control point, there are two handles to control the direction of the curve
