Measuring and reporting progress with visualization
The Scrum Board itself gives a clear picture of how a team is tracking. It's immediately apparent which User Stories are in progress, and on which tasks the team is busy working.
It's possible for us to enhance the information that the Scrum Board radiates in ways that will make the status of the Sprint more evident, and therefore the conversation at the Daily Scrum less about the team's status and more about the work and coordinating around it.
The following subtle visual additions should allow you to reduce cognitive overload, enabling the team to focus more on the work at hand and less on managing the process around it. Of course, these are just suggestions; if you can think of any others, then by all means experiment.
