Lightweight and fast

ASP.NET Core was built to be lightweight and fast. Recent benchmarks prove that the hard work has paid off—ASP.NET Core is now a strong contender in web framework public benchmarks, such as TechEmpower's, and it has outperformed other major web frameworks. Needless to say, it's shown enormous improvements over its predecessor, ASP.NET 4.6.
