Database as a Service (DaaS)
Database as a Service (DaaS) is a service model wherein a third-party service provider, which hosts scalable relational databases as services, applies the multitenancy technology in database systems. Some famous examples include the following:
- Amazon RDS: Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) is a DaaS service provided by AWS. Amazone RDS grants a cost-efficient and resizable capacity, while automating time-consuming administration tasks, such as hardware provisioning, database setup, patching, and backups. It frees users to concentrate on their applications, so that they are given the fast performance, high availability, security, and compatibility that they need.
- Microsoft Azure SQL: Azure [16] is a comprehensive set of cloud services that developers and IT professionals utilize to build, deploy, and manage applications through the global network of data centers. The system has integrated tools, DevOps, and marketplace support that help to efficiently build anything from simple mobile apps to internet-scale solutions.
- Google Cloud SQL: Cloud SQL is a fully-managed database service. It is easy to set up, maintain, manage, and administer relational databases in the cloud. Users can use Cloud SQL with either MySQL or PostgreSQL. In addition to that, Cloud SQL offers high scalability, high performance, security, and convenience.
- StormDB: StormDB provides a database as a service cloud platform that can uniquely handle intensive transactional workloads in real-time.
- Others (EnterpriseDB, Xeround).
