55　after due consideration, morning dew

Henry：趙Sir，今天談甚麼？

趙Sir：Due和dew是一對同音異義字，你想先談哪個？

Henry：我較喜歡有多個意思的due；dew太簡單了，只得“霧水”這個意思。

趙Sir：好！那便先談多采多姿的due吧。Due是形容詞（adjective），有四個意思：

一、“由於、因為”，例如：

The team's success was largely due to her efforts.

（這隊的成功主要是她努力的結果。）

Most of the problems were due to human error.

（多數問題都是人為錯誤造成的。）

二、“預定、預期”，例如：

When's the baby due?

（寶寶預定甚麼時候出世？）

My essay is due next Friday.

（我的論文下週五提交。）

The band's first album is due for release later this month.

（這支樂隊的首張唱片預定在本月下旬發行。）

三、“到期的、應付的”，例如：

Payment is due on 1 October.

（付款期限為十月一日。）

Have they been paid the money that is due to them?

（他們應得的錢付給他們了嗎？）

四、“適當的”，例如：

After due consideration, we have decided to appoint Mr. Chan to the job.

（經過充份考慮後，我們決定委任陳先生負責這項工作。）

Henry：明白。Dew又如何？

趙Sir：Dew是“霧水”，例如：

The grass was wet with early morning dew.

（清晨的霧水使青草濕漉漉的。）

Henry：在濕漉漉的青草上行走很易滑倒！
