- Oracle Applications Adapter 10g
  - Installs Application Explorer.
  - Oracle Studio for Legacy Adapters on Windows for the design-time.
  - Runtime components — deploy the following runtime components automatically:
    
    J2CA deployment for packaged applications.
    
    BSE deployment for packaged applications.
    
    Legacy adapters for CICS, IMS/TM, IMS/DB, and VSAM.
    
    Java EE Connector Legacy Adapter for connecting with Oracle Connect engine running on legacy platforms.
    
    Oracle Connect — The mainframe Legacy Service Engine component, called Oracle Connect, comes with adapter software. It is under the "Oracle_Connect" directory under the staging area of the Legacy Adapter software. There are a couple of files that need to be ftp'd to the mainframe, and you will need to follow the installation guide for completing the mainframe configuration steps.

The legacy and mainframe adapters (CICS Adapter, VSAM Adapter, IMS/TM Adapter, IMS/DB Adapter, and Tuxedo Adapter) have a design-time component — Oracle Studio for Legacy Adapters that can be installed on Windows and Linux.

The Legacy Services Engine (LSE) from Oracle has two run-time components:

Oracle Connect that gets installed on the mainframe.
Java EE Connector Legacy Adapter component that gets deployed on the Oracle Application Server.

There are different flavors for Oracle Connect depending on the mainframe application that you are connecting to:

Oracle Connect for CICS
Oracle Connect for IMS/TM
Oracle Connect for VSAM (The one we are using in this example)
Oracle Connect for IMS/DB
Oracle Connect for Tuxedo

The Java EE Connector Legacy Adapter component that gets deployed on the Oracle Application Server is the same for all flavors of Oracle Connect.
