The Bright Pearl

Once upon a time，a dragon lived east of the Milky Way and a phoenix west．One day，they discovered a shinny stone，so beautiful that they decided to carve it into a pearl．After many years of chiseling with their claws and beak，then many more years of polishing with dewdrops and sacred water，the stone finally turned into a dazzling crystal pearl．Through the years，the dragon and the phoenix grew attached to the pearl，so they stayed to guard it day and night．

However，one night during their sleep，guards of the queen of heaven，who had noticed the shimmering of the pearl from above，stole it．Some days later，the queen celebrated her birthday．In front of all her guests，she boasted her newly gained treasure．The gleam of the pearl caught the attention of the two heartbroken owners down below and guided them to the queen．However，the queen refused to return it，claiming that all the treasures in the universe belonged to her．Seeing that it was useless to argue，the two owners tried to snatch the pearl from the queen．In their scramble，the pearl fell through the clouds towards the earth．The dragon and the phoenix immediately flew down to protect it．When the pearl landed，it became the sparkling West Lake of Hangzhou．The two owners，on the other hand，transformed into the Jade Dragon Mountain and the Phoenix Mountain so as to keep guard of their treasure．
