4.4 Layout and Building of Continuous Casting Workshop

4.4.1 The arrangement of continuous casting workshop shall meet the following requirement:

1 The upstream and downstream operation sequences shall have effective connection.

2 The arrangement of main process equipment shall be reasonable and the flow shall be smooth.

3 The area for various production sequences and maintenances as well as the area for storage of equipment and product shall be sufficient.

4.4.2 The general layout of continuous casting workshop shall meet the following requirement:

1 The main workshop building of new steelmaking and continuous casting workshop shall adopt the compact arrangement namely in vicinity to main rolling mill workshop building and connection to rolling equipment.The casting product produced in continuous casting workshop shall be directly delivered in hot conditions by roller table,and the thermal insulation measure can be taken.

2 The following methods can be used for revamping of existing plant:

1)If the continuous caster is provided inside the steelmaking and continuous casting workshop,the casting products shall use the dedicated hot delivery line to rolling mill workshop.

2)If the distance between the rolling mill workshop and the steelmaking workshop is far and the volume of steelmaking furnace is big,the continuous casting workshop may be built in vicinity to rolling mill workshop,the steelmaking workshop and continuous casting workshop are provided with dedicated liquid steel conveying line,and the direct hot delivery by roller table is provided between the continuous casting and rolling mill.

4.4.3 The arrangement of continuous caster in the workshop shall meet the following requirement:

1 If in horizontal arrangement,the centerline of continuous caster shall be perpendicular to the building column line of casting bay,and the casting operation shall be divided and performed in each bay.

2 If in longitudinal arrangement,the centerline of continuous caster shall be in parallel to building column line of each bay.The longitudinal arrangement is suitable for the occasions that few casters are inside workshop or steelmaking plant suffers from the limitation of layout conditions.

3 New continuous casting workshop shall adopt the horizontal arrangement.

4.4.4 The main building of new continuous casting workshop shall adopt multiple-bay joining arrangement and shall consist of liquid steel receiving bay,casting bay,cutting bay and discharging bay in turns.The numbers of each bay and its parameters shall be determined according to the specific conditions such as type of caster and equipment arrangement.

4.4.5 The process arrangement of main continuous casting workshop building shall be determined according to the principle of operation in subzone as per process flow and shall realize smooth process,uncrossed material flow direction,and noninterference of various process.At in the meantime,the following requirement shall be met:

1 The operating line of continuous caster shall be arranged in the optimum position of liquid steel supply.

2 New continuous caster shall adopt the ladle turret for casting.

3 The workshop shall have sufficient area for maintenance of tundish,mould and equipment.

4 The building of tundish repairing and lining area in casting bay of large continuous casting workshop shall adopt the arrangement of cranes in high and low bay.

5 The discharging bay shall reserve the area for inspection,conditioning and storage of some continuous casting strands.The slow cooling and thermal insulation facilities shall be provided for some alloy steel and the steel grade not suitable for direct hot delivery.

4.4.6 The main parameters such as length and width of each bay in main workshop building as well as the rail level of crane shall be determined according to the scale,steel grade to be cast,section dimension,type of caster and equipment arrangement.

4.4.7 The design of main continuous casting workshop building and structure shall meet the following requirement:

1 The main workshop building shall be the steel structure building,and its roof shall be designed according to the factors such as static load of wind,rain,snow and dust and consummate dust cleaning conditions.

2 The run-through safety walkway shall be provided at both sides of crane rail in each bay and both ends of workshop building,and the visiting walkway connecting to main bay and main operation platform shall be provided between the columns of workshop building as well.

3 The dimension of door opening in each bay shall meet the requirement of various material transportation vehicles and the access of large component of large process assembly.

4 The pedestrian safety walkway with distinct symbol shall be provided on the workshop floor.The structure and load of workshop floor shall meet the requirement of table 4.4.7.

5 The continuous casting platform can either adopt the mixed design of concrete and steel structure or full steel structure design.The even-distributed load of main operation platform shall be designed as per 15kN/m2-25kN/m2.The area on which equipment shall be place locally or designated by other operation shall be designed as per actual requirement.The even-distributed load of intermediate platform shall be calculated as per10kN/m2.The maintenance and operation platform around continuous caster shall be designed as per 5kN/m2.

4.4.8 The platform beam and column,crane beam,workshop building column and other building(structure)insides workshop close to the high temperature radiation area such as liquid steel,billet and molten slag must take the thermal insulation measures.

4.4.9 The process arrangement of continuous caster shall be designed strictly in accordance with relevant safety regulations.
