Dialogue 1

Zhang Yu: Hello, Lin Wei. How are you?Are you happy at your new school？

Lin Wei: Yes. It's very different from1 other high schools. We have classes in school and we also2 go to factories to learn work skills.

Zhang Yu: Do you like doing that？

Lin Wei: Yes. It's quite interesting. Other high school students sit in the classroom the whole day3.

Zhang Yu: What do you do in the factories？

Lin Wei: The technicians teach us how to use machines. It's interesting but not easy. There are so many English words on the machines.

Zhang Yu: So you must learn English well to read them.

Lin Wei: Thank you for your advice.

Notes

1．be different from表示“和……不同”，一般指同一種類型的東西在某點上不同。be different with不是個固定搭配，它不是表示兩樣東西的不同，而是表示在某種情況下某個人和物表現出的不同情況，一般是指不同類型事物的比較。

e.g. My way of life is very different from hers．我和她的生活方式差別很大。

He's always noisy with us, but he is different with girls.

和我們在一起他很吵鬧，和女孩在一起就不一樣了。

2．also, too, as well, either，作“也”講，為副詞。

too, also, as well：都用于肯定句，表示前者怎樣后者也怎樣。

too：一般放在句尾，可用逗號和前面的句子隔開，也可不用。

also：其位置大多在be動詞、助動詞、情態動詞之后，實義動詞之前。

as well：其位置一般在句尾。

通過三者可以作同義句轉換。

e.g. You need to go shopping and I need to go shopping, too.

你需要去買東西，我也需要去買東西。

You need to go shopping and I also need to go shopping.

You need to go shopping and I need to go shopping as well.

3．the whole day強調“一整天”。

e.g. The child kept down in bed the whole day.

那個孩子一整天都在床上睡著。

Lucy: What training classes do you like？

Bob: I like computer science and car-repairing. They are very useful.

1．besides指“除……以外，還有……”。

e.g. Besides these honors he received a sum of money.

除了榮譽以外，他還得了一筆錢。

beside意指“在……旁邊”。

e.g. beside the river在河邊
