ThosewhoknowKurtVonnegutasoneofAmerica'smostbelovedandinfluentialwriterswillbesurprisedanddelightedtodiscoverthathewasalsoagiftedgraphicartist.Thisbookbringstogetherthefinestexamplesofhisfunny,strange,andmovingdrawingsinaninexpensive,beautifullyproducedgiftvolumeforeveryVonnegutfan.KurtVonnegut'sdaughterNanetteintroducesthisvolumeofhisneverbeforepublisheddrawingswithanintimateremembranceofherfather.Vonnegutalwaysdrew,andmanyofhisnovelscontainsketches.BreakfastofChampions(1973)includedmanyfelt-tippendrawings,andhehadashowin1983ofhisdrawingsatNewYork'sMargoFeidenGallery,butreallygotgoingintheearly1990swhenhebecameacquaintedwiththescreenprinterJoePetroIII,whobecamehispartnerinmakinghiscolorfuldrawingsavailableassilkscreens.Withatouchofcubism,mixedwithaPaulKleegiftforcaricature,aCalder-likeabilitytobalancecolorandline,andmorethanatouchofsixtiespsychedelicsensibility,Vonnegut'saestheticisasidiosyncraticanddefiantoftraditionashisbooks.Whilewritingcametobemoreonerousinhislateryears,makingartbecamehisjoyfulprimaryactivity,andhemadedrawingsupuntilhisdeathin2007.Thisvolume,andaplannedtouringexhibitionofthedrawings,willintroduceVonnegut'slegionoffanstoanentirelynewsideofhisirrepressiblecreativepersonality.
